Volvo XC60 vs. Audi Q5
Performance
The Volvo XC60 offers two mild-hybrid powerplant options, both more capable than the Q5's equivalent engines. The standard turbocharged B5 generates 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the available B6 adds a supercharger to boost output to 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft. The Q5 40 TFSI falls behind, making 201 hp and 236 lb-ft, while the 45 TFSI produces 261 hp and 273 lb-ft.
While both models have an available plug-in hybrid variant, the XC60 Recharge Extended Ranges offers superior performance (455 hp, 523 lb-ft) and electric range (~35 miles). The Audi Q5 55 TFSI e's internal motivation is robust but comes up short in comparison, with 362 hp/369 lb-ft and ~23 miles of electric range.
Interior and Versatility
Both SUVs offer similarly sized passenger compartments, with the XC60 providing slightly more legroom for front-seat passengers (+0.6 inches). However, the XC60 delivers better practicality, with 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and a maximum of 63.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The Audi Q5's cargo capacities measure 25.6 and 53.5 cubic feet.
Available Features
Each of these impressively equipped luxury SUVs offers a wealth of amenities across their lineups. However, the XC60 makes several features more accessible than the Q5. For example, fully integrated navigation and Lane-Keep Assist are standard, while technologies like Pilot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Centering, and a 360-degree camera system are available for any trim. These features are only found on the Q5's higher trims.
Volvo XC60 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLC 300
Performance
The Volvo XC60 B6 delivers swift and smooth acceleration with its turbo and supercharged mild-hybrid powertrain producing an all-wheel-driving 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The GLC 300 4MATIC generates 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft.
If you're looking to add some excitement to your daily drives without compromising efficiency, the XC60 Recharge Extended Range impresses with its prodigious twincharged plug-in hybrid powerplant (455 horsepower, 523 pound-feet of torque). And with 35 miles of battery-only range, it's an excellent way to try out the Pure Electric lifestyle. The Mercedes-Benz GLC doesn't have a comparable powertrain.
Interior and Versatility
Both models offer comfortable, premium-looking cabins befitting high-class luxury SUVs. However, passengers may find the Volvo XC60 a bit more accommodating than the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 as it offers more front and rear legroom and front shoulder room. The XC60 also boasts greater practicality, offering 30 cubic feet of cargo capacity with all seats in use and up to 63.6 cubic feet with the 60/40-split second-row folded. The GLC 300 falls behind in comparison, with 24.3 and 56.5 cubic feet behind the first and second rows, respectively.
Features
While both models offer generously equipped base models, the Volvo XC60 comes standard with many features that are limited to packages or standalone add-ons in the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The XC60 Momentum includes amenities and technologies like a panoramic sunroof, a 12-inch fully digital gauge cluster, wireless charging, Oncoming Lane Mitigation (evasive steering), Lane Keeping Aid, and steering-adaptive front lighting. None of these features come standard in the GLC.
